In order to ensure that you get the most out of your glaze, we have listed below some common problems that you may encounter when using glazes and how to deal with them. Please take a look.
As a general rule, we recommend dipping the piece in glaze. You can also use other glazing methods, but the thickness of the glaze may be uneven.
[Troubleshooting]
- Crazing : If the glaze is applied too thickly, crazing (cracks in the glaze) may occur.
If you are not aiming for crazing, apply the glaze to porcelain by dipping it in the glaze for about 3 seconds. For pottery, gently rub the surface after glazing.
- Uneven color
If the thickness of the applied glaze is uneven, uneven color will occur.
If you are not aiming for uneven coloring, try to minimize the time difference between the start and end of immersion so that the glaze is applied evenly.
- Glaze cracking or shrinkage
If dust, hand oils, etc. are attached to the item to be glazed, the glaze may be repelled.
Therefore, please be careful not to get dust, dirt, bisque powder, or oils from your hands on the product.
If it does get on your skin, try rubbing it with a towel, blowing it off with air, or removing it with sandpaper.
- Glaze decay
Water is used to adjust the Baume concentration of the glaze. If the glaze is left to stand, the glaze and water will separate (this is called clean water). If the glaze is left for a long period of time, this clean water will decay and cause the glaze to crack when it is applied.
Therefore, please discard the tap water approximately three days after using the glaze.
Also, store it in a cool, dark place out of direct sunlight. Before using the next glaze, mix it with fresh water to get the Baume consistency.
If more than one year has passed since the delivery of the product,
The ingredients in the glaze may combine, resulting in a different texture than when it was first delivered, even if it is applied under the same conditions as when it was first delivered. Therefore, we recommend using it within one year.
